Description

This buggy, also called a roundabout, was found in a shed on Islesboro and is believed to have belonged to Bill Dick Pendleton or Mathew O'Hara. It is black with a wooden box on iron framework. The top is collapsible. The floor is carpeted and there is room under and behind the seats for storage.

Buggies such as this one were used on Islesboro long after the transition to automobiles on the mainland. Islesboro's summer community perferred the peace and tranquility of horse-drawn vehicles rather than autos.
