Islesboro Historical Society Facts

Collections:
The Islesboro Historical Society's museum, in addition to standard displays, features a changing exhibit that is replaced annually. The Society's archives contain genealogical information as well as cemetery information and other historical information. A unique highlight of the Islesboro Historical Society's museum is that it features the recreated F.S. Pendleton & Co. general store. After the store closed in 1979, after over 100 years of business, many of its contents as well as other signature pieces (sign, counter, etc.) were moved into the museum and made into a display.

Facilities:
The Islesboro Historical Society operates out of what was the old Town Hall. Built in 1892, the building served in that capacity until 1960. In 1906 the Islesboro High School moved into the top two floors and remained there until 1953. In 1971 the building was deeded to the Historical Society for $1.

Currently, the first floor houses regular exhibits and productions. The second two floors are filled with museum space, the archives, and storage.
